Description

We should target Amazon AMIs, VMware VIrtual Appliances and Vagrant Boxes as standard release platforms. Ubuntu 10.04 and Centos 5.5 should be the targeted base operating systems. Publishing to these platforms supports BD activities with VMware and Amazon and should lower the barrier of entry for users targeting virtual/cloud environments.

Suggested Priority:

Amazon AMIs VMware Virtual Appliance Vagrant Box

Assuming the assigning to Nick Lewis was a mis-type of “Ni(gel)”.

Added Michael as a watcher.

We do want to do this. I see the major chunks of functionality we want Michael to be working on as:

  • adding platform support
  • Building out automated package build infrastructure
  • Adding image creation as an artifact of automated builds

Given we have 2.7.x with the seamless ability to push a PE install to any of these virtual platforms, I’m closing this.

Any users targeting virtual platforms can use this. The engineering effort required to build extra AMIs isn’t worth it given we have simple PE provisioning functionality.

I would like to see us have a single AMI we maintain for PE, but that should possibly be Amazon Linux, and a separate request.
